Hull Identification Number
Boats manufactured or imported on or after August 1, 1984 must have a 12 character Hull Identification Number that uniquely identifies each boat.
i. The first three characters of the HIN are a MIC (Manufacturer Identification Code) assigned by the Coast Guard to the manufacturer or the person importing the boat (“BEY" in the case of Beneteau).
ii. The next two digits indicate what model design it is
iii. The next three digits are the actual hull #
iv. The letter designates what month it is built; A=JAN, B=Feb, C=March ... L=Dec
v. The next digit indicates what year the boat was built
vi. The last two digits are what model year the boat is
