Chicago Mac race

The famous Chicago Yacht Club’s race to Mackinac Island began on Saturday, July 16th. This year’s race had 361 boats registered and 53 of them were Beneteaus!

Congratulations to all of the Beneteaus that participated. Karma took First place in the Beneteau First 36.7 Class and Spanker took First place for the Beneteau First 40.7s.

On a Sad note, there was a terrible storm that confronted the racers on Saturday night. Wingnuts, a kiwi 35, capsized. Sociable, a First 40.7, notified the Coast guard and was able to rescue 5 members of the crew. Ten other boats in the area also abandoned the race to respond to the situation. Unfortunately 2 members of the crew have been confirmed dead. Thanks to the actions of the Sociable crew the situation could have been much worse so we thank them for their selfless act and offer our condolences to the family and friends of Wingnuts crew.

Ion, our 2009 Beneteau 43, achieved third in leg 10 of the Telus Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race last weekend.

The Van Isle 360 is a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island broken into ten legs over two weeks. The first few legs covering the east side of the Island are daytime legs and once you leave Port Hardy for "over the top", all remaining legs are overnight unless you have a very fast boat.

Tied for first overall in the three day Leukemia Cup Regatta held in Dana Point, CA. in June.
