2008 Annapolis NOOD Regatta

Ten First 36.7s made it to the starting line in April for the 2008 Annapolis NOOD Regatta. The fleet battled difficult light air conditions throughout Friday and Saturday, however a cold front met the sailors on Sunday morning with a 15 knot breeze. Despite the two days of light air, the race committee was able to fit in eight races during the weekend, offering some very competitive sailing amongst the 36.7 class.

Curt Schwab’s Volition finished in first place with 18 points, despite the fact that they didn’t win a single race during the entire weekend. Art Silcox and his crew aboard Ka’Io finished only one point behind Volition to claim second. Jim Keen’s Foxtrot Corpen took third place, finishing with 21 overall points. Ka’Io entered the final day of racing in first place, four points ahead of Volition. Curt Schwab and his team had a strong finish to the regatta, taking second in each of the final two races. This was just enough for Volition overtake Ka’Io for the overall win. Foxtrot Corpen started Sunday in third place with a two point margin over Peter Firey’s Pegasus. Foxtrot Corpen scored a bullet in the first race and finished fifth in the second and final race, distancing themselves just enough over Pegasus to hang on to third.

Charleston Race Week

Charleston Race week also took place in April. Conditions ranged from light and shifty to over 18 knots of breeze throughout the regatta.
Beneteau’s own Patrick Le Goff dominated the PHRF H fleet aboard his Beneteau 40 Prelude. Le Goff and his crew scored bullets in each of their seven races. Bernard Schapiro’s Beneteau 411 Pied-a’-Mer finished in second place behind Prelude.
Dean Forbis’ First 36.7 Echo won the PHRF D class. Forbis finished with 18 points after the seven races, narrowly beating a well sailed J 35 by two points. The eleven boat fleet was very competitive throughout the regatta, with five different boats taking first place in seven races. Additionally, Bruce Gardner’s First 10M L’Outrage took 2nd place in the nine boat PHRF E fleet.
